1. Groove Music (Pre-Installed)
Groove, which was previously known as Xbox Music, is a music service by Microsoft which hopes to compete with other music services like Google Play Music, Apple Music, Spotify, etc. While Groove is a music service, Groove Music is the official music player and organizer app. Using this little app you can play and organize all your music, be it stored locally or on your OneDrive account. The music app is mostly simple with no confusing menus, and as it integrates well with your OneDrive account, you can stream your favorite music on whatever device you want.
Since Groove Music is designed around the Groove service, you can actually get your hands on millions of songs by purchasing the Groove Music Pass, much like Spotify or Google Play Music.
2. Photos (Pre-Installed)
The improved Photos app in your Windows 10 system is designed to be the central hub for all your pictures. Whenever you preview an image in Windows 10, it is opened by the Photos app (unless you’ve changed the defaults). The Photos app integrates well with the OneDrive cloud storage and can display all the photos in your cloud account along with the pictures in the local storage. The new Photos app is really helpful if you are using OneDrive to automatically back up all your pictures or images in your mobile devices.
3. Mail (Pre-Installed)
The Mail app is one of my favorite apps in Windows 10. It is lightweight with its minimalist design, and it has improved its features from Windows 8. You can add almost any email account to the app. Yes, unlike in Windows 8, the new Mail app even supports POP accounts. Some of the best features of the Mail app include, but are not limited to, drag and drop support, touch-friendly user interface, automatic replies, and integration with calendar. To put it simply, the Mail app in Windows 10 is like the stripped down version of Outlook.
4. Adobe Photoshop Express
Adobe Photoshop is one of the best software for photo editing, but not everyone requires this high-end software just to edit a couple of photos. To deal with this, Adobe released the free and lightweight app called Adobe Photoshop Express, and it can be downloaded from the Windows Store. Though the app doesn’t have all the advanced features that are available in the full version, it has all the basic features like cropping, straightening, color correction, one-touch filters, auto-fix, etc. If you are someone who is looking for some simple photo fixes, then do give the app a try.
5. Fresh Paint
Fresh Paint is a free and excellent painting app from Microsoft. Though this is an official Microsoft app, it is not installed by default, and you need to download it from the Windows store. Using this app, you can draw or paint your ideas on a blank canvas, and if you want to you can also import images and then work on them as necessary, or you can just use the camera app to capture a picture and paint it. The app supports various inputs like mouse, touch, and stylus. Moreover, one of the best things about Fresh Paint is that you can print your work in high definition. If you are an artist or graphic designer, do try this app.
6. Code Writer
Code Writer is a simple code-editing app that supports over twenty languages including, but not limited to, C++, C#, VB, PHP, HTML, CSS, Python, ASP. Just like any other code editor, the app has all the basic features like active syntax highlighting, color previews, auto-complete, auto-case correct, code errors, advanced find and replace, etc. The good thing about Code Writer is that it can save your files either in local storage or in the cloud. Though not as powerful as other code editors like Notepad++, SublimeText or Atom, it does get the job done.
