Setting Up an Account
Morning Mail was a freemium app you downloaded and used for free, but the usage was limited to one account. If you wanted to add more email accounts, you had to pay to unlock the premium features. Fortunately, the developer decided to ditch the freemium model and now lets users add more email accounts for free. Adding your first – or second, third, and more – email account is easy. Tap the “Settings” icon at the top-left corner of the main screen. Then tap the “Add account” link.
There are many email service options you can choose such as Gmail, iCloud, Yahoo, Outlook, etc. Morning Mail will be adding the option to add other mail providers that support IMAP in a future version of the app. So far everything about this app seems normal. But the real fun begins after you add your account(s).
Swipe Those Cards Away
One different thing about Morning Mail is the user interface. The app is not using the “normal” list of emails approach to manage your inbox. With the goal of helping its users reach zero inbox, the app is using a deck of cards analogy – similar to Tinder or Doo. You will be presented with one email at a time in the form of a card. Then you can choose what you want to do with it. If you want to read it, a simple tap to the card will open the email for you. But if you are like most people today, there are many emails in your inbox that you want to delete straight out, and there are still others that you want to mark as read or archive without opening them. Morning Mail provides you with an easy way to do that. If you want to delete an email quickly, swipe the card to the left.
If you want to archive an email, swipe the card to the right. To mark an email as read, swipe it down.
Other Options
For those who prefer the old-fashioned way of dealing with emails where the entries are presented in a chronological list, there’s the “Inbox” that you can access via the menu at the bottom of the screen.
To create a new email, tap the “Pencil” icon in the middle of the bottom menu bar. Next to it is the “Archive” where you can find your previously archived emails and “More” where you can access your “Trash, Sent” and “Junk” emails.
By helping users to build a habit of dealing with each and every email right away, Morning Mail hopes that they can eventually reach zero inbox. But with literally tens of thousands of emails in the average user’s inbox, the effort would take too long for most of them to achieve. There should be another way, in addition to the card-swiping feature, that could help users deal with the bulk of emails quickly and efficiently – maybe something similar to Gmail’s smart filtering options. Morning Mail’s card swiping approach is a fresh new way to handle emails. It’s very effective to deal with recent emails because it shows you a partial content of the email one by one, so you don’t have to open it to decide what to do.
